I recently installed all new RG-213 (the flexible type) at my station. Same
problem, with a different twist (pun). This stuff has a tad thicker jacket,
although it's softer, than most others. So when you twist on the connector
prior to soldering, it gets too much bite, and twists the jacket. But if you
properly tin and cut the shielding (you do tin the full shield and then cut
it, don't you?), and get a good solder job with a big 260 watt gun through
all 4 holes (high heat for a short time is the key), the mechanical
connection is solid. Mechanical strength comes from soldering the connector
body to the fully tinned shield, not from thread bite on the jacket.
