I am about to build a sleeve balun using large ferrite sleeves on RG213.
It will be used at the center of an 80m dipole. The cores are a size
which seems to be pretty common in surplus, 1"OD x 0.5"ID x 1.125"L. My
first thought was to protect them from the weather with a PVC pipe
cover. I wonder if anyone has left these cores exposed to the weather
and, if so, how did it work out? Do they deteriorate due to sunlight or
moisture?
I suppose rain (due to the high K of water) would change the resonance
of the cores but might not be a serious problem. Any thoughts?
