Tent stakes? You mean those 10 inch angular pieces of
thin metal or plastic? I hope NOT !
Our local club installs 4 or 5 50 ft R25 towers every year for field
day.
We use mobile home screw anchors 4 ft long with dual 4 inch plates
for guying. A rented installation tool is used, sort of like a large
drill
with long handles on each side. Small galvanized utility 4 ft anchors
with 4 inch plates could also be used and turned in by hand using
a heavy pipe inserted through the eye. The towers are preassembled
with the rotors and 2L Quads with the top supported by step ladders.
The towers are raised by using a 30 ft crank up tower mounted on a
trailer with a giant Block and Tackle between the top of the tower
and the base. The R25 is picked up just below the 30 ft level.
It is imperitive to keep the lifting tower vertical ! As the tower is
raised, the bottom is walked in the base which conisists of a piece
of 1 X 14? with three long threaded rods placed to align with the
legs. These rods extend above and below the board to keep it
in place. The 5 towers can be set up and taken down in a couple
of hours. It's quite an impressive operation !
For short towers and light loads, Rohn 20 could be used,
or maybe even two 20 ft pieces of pipe coupled with a threaded
coupler on the outside and another short pipe inside, bolted
to hold it in place.
