Hello Talkians;

I am in the process of rebuilding a very old HyGain TH3-
MK3 for one of the local DX'ers. According to the manual
that came with the antenna, there are only two dimension
settings to select from; either "CW" or "PHONE."

My friend, who will be using the antenna, operates SSB but
has expressed an interest in doing some DX'ing on CW.
According to the SWR curves in the TH3 manual, the
antenna is basically either set up for CW or SSB.

Has anyone tried to set the dimensions on the antenna so as
to allow for both CW & SSB operation? I realize that the
antenna isn't going to cover the entire portions of each of
the bands but was wondering if there might be some kind
of a "compromise" that would allow the antenna to have a
greater bandwidth that the SWR curves in the manual indi-
cate. Thanks for any help on this.
