You didn't say what the connectors were.

I had an experience with the Hamfest style 25 silver PL259's in a bag where
the center pin was covered in a white oxide after just being put on a few
weeks prior.  And that was in the shack.  I had experienced the same loss of
receive but if I hit the PTT it would work for a short time.  Started
checking the new jumpers and one of them was full of white powder.
