Per the PolyPhaser book: "Lightning Protection and Grounding Solutions for
Communication Sites", by Ken R. Rand, Published by PolyPhaser, First
Edition, Copyright 2000, page 30, the strap may be as thin as 0.016" thick.
The high frequency (1 MHz) lightning pulse will penetrate 0.008" per face,
max.
That answers your immediate question, but I would advise you obtain this
book. It is the most well-written book on lightning protection I have come
across, including the prior versions of this PolyPhaser series.
