I've used a GAP Voyager on 80 and 40 (ground-mounted); it worked very well.
I've never elevated one but I have seen several installations where they
were mounted on back of wooden decks behind a house.  This put them about 6
or 8 feet above ground.  The owners seemed to be happy with them.

As far as how well it will work for DX or contest work, of course it depends
how serious you want to be.  You can work a lot of DX and have some casual
contest fun with a vertical; if you want to consistently be #1 in the
pileups or turn-in big contest scores you likely won't be happy with that
antenna (or most other verticals).
