Particularly the older Phelps-Dodge, the adage is, if it ain't broke
don't fix it. The real weak point is the coax to the antenna, and the
coax connection at the base not being sealed properly.

Are there any difficulties with the antenna? I've seen 'em up in the
air for 30 years and still running. It's not like they have any moving
parts or transistors to fry.

Aside from being broken by severe ice followed by wind, or being
struck by lightning, they can just set there indefinitely and work.
The one I had that was struck, created loose solder b-b's inside that
made the antenna spectacularly noisy. It would be hard to miss, not a
subtle trouble at all.

I've seen the fiberglass repainted with white epoxy paint (brand and
type unknown) when the surface started to get a little loose.
