I would think you will want the contacts to be configured to "break before 
make" to avoid the possibility of equipment damage at transfer time. Relays 
can be purchased or reliably configured as such, switches would be more 
risky. Thinking back to my novice days, a plain old knife switch might be 
enough to satisfy. Operating frequency and impedance issues need to be 
considered if the application is above the HF range.
