Several people have noted that although Rohn filed for bankruptcy, that doesn't
necessarily mean they will be going out of business and stopping production.
This is certainly true. However, when struggling companies go through tough
times and a turnaround, you can expect significant changes. From my own M&A
experience, I can assure you that the management team will be discussing - at a
minimum - the following possible changes:
1. Sell off unprofitable and low-growth business segments
2. Raise prices in 'keeper' businesses to improve profitability
3. Squeeze costs out of production and distribution channels
4. Streamline product lines - reduce the number of product lines supported and
strive for increased volume and benefits of scale
I don't know where sales of 25G/45G/55G to the amateur radio market fits in the
grand scheme for Rohn. But, it probably isn't perceived as a growth market in
relation to the burgeoning WiFi and personal communications markets.
Don't get me wrong - I do believe that Rohn will continue operations in some
form and I have every hope that the products we are so familiar with will
remain easily available at reasonable prices, but I also believe that it is
prudent to have alternative suppliers in the wings - just in case.

RE: Tower survey
With the news that Rohn is in trouble comes the possibility that those of us
who have been using Rohn towers exclusively might have to try something new in
the future. But what would that be?
My reason for writing this message is to invite those of you with expertise in
non-Rohn tower lines to write up informative summaries of what you know and
what's good and bad about these alternatives. This information would be a good
resource for all of us regardless of the final outcome of the Rohn situation. I
am particularly interested in guyed tower alternatives to 25G and 45G.

A guy who knows nothing but Rohn.
