Thanks for all the suggestions. I will start testing them today. For all
those that suggested that maybe the mast was binding I know this is not
the case because I loosened the mast completely and the situation still
existed. Thanks again.

There are several possibilities that come to mind, Jim. Unfortunately,

all require dismounting and disassembling the rotor for diagnosis and
repair.
Check your manual, go thru the 'in the shack' troubleshooting guide to
check
that the wiring is OK between the house/control unit and the rotor.
(Manuals
can be had on the BAMA/K4XL website) If all is well there, I'm afraid
you're looking at dismounting the rotor for repair.
As to what's binding it up(my guess), it could be a chip out of the
brake
pawl hanging up in the gearset...could be a damaged tooth in the brake
housing (in which the brake engages), or, could be a loose or broken
spring
in the brake set/release mechanism. There is always, also, the
possibility
that a bearing set is dirty or damaged.

I searched the archives for this problem but the remedy given doesn't
help in my situation. Here's the problem. When my rotor is pointed to
the west / southwest and stopped there it doesn't want to restart. The
first thing I did was to make sure the coax was not binding, and then I
loosened the mast clamp and tried the rotator with no load and still had
the problem. I took it down from the tower yesterday and tried it
plugged directly plugged into the control box. Everything worked fine.
As per suggestions on the reflector I installed new rotor cable and
reinstalled the rotor. The problem was back. So what I know is that it
is not binding, coax is not interfering and there is new rotor cable.
Any other suggestions other than sending it to CATS. I am concerned that
it will bench test OK for them. Thanks fin advance for the help.
