Colin,
They replace those long ago with a 1/4 wave matching section and a 1:1 Balun. 
Remove the existing matching section.
On the 3 element they used 2  1/4 wave sections in parallel, one 50 ohm and 
one 75 ohm.  On the 2 element they used 2  50 ohm cables in parallel.
Put the Balun ant the feedpoint and run the two lines back to the center and 
connect to you coax running to the shack. You can coil up the excess.
I used coax connectors on each end of the matching sections and a coax T 
connector to connect them together.  You'll have to figure out the correct 
lengths 
depending on the the type of cable and it's velocity factor. KLM used a 
Teflon coated cable, RG-302 and RG-303.  I used RG-8X and works fine.
I've had my 3 element up for 21 years.
