I agree with those who say that modeling is a valuable place to start with a
complex antenna design.  Then one must translate the model results to the
real world, understanding the limitations of the modeling software, using
experience and measurements.  

This discussion reminds me of a famous quote by General Patton.  "The map is
not the terrain.  The terrain is the terrain."  I often wonder about the
situation that prompted him to say that.
