I hit the wrong button on this one before, but...

Teflon is not necessary at HF and it is not easily damaged from heat
compared to most plastics so if you run into something easily damaged it's
probably something that only looks like Teflon.

Mechanically Teflon is not sound as it tends to cold flow.

Is the Teflon necessary at HF? I know it gets damage from misplaced heat
pretty easily. Phenolic is rugged and seems to last a long time. Are there
good reasons to go with Teflon over phenolic?

Silver Plated PL-259s with Teflon insulation!  The silver connectors solder
very well with only a minimal amount of heat required to do the job.  In
other words, you don't have to cook your connector to get the solder to
flow!  I get all of mine at HRO!  You can also get them from CableXperts and
Universal Radio.

Radio Shack is a BAD place to get connectors!
