I've observed that 2 verticals on 20 meters 800 feet apart
fade in and out independently.

Over what sort of time span... tenths of seconds, seconds, or minutes?


And, are the patterns of the two antennas comparable (i.e. you've got them out on that dead flat area in Galt) so you're looking at skywave variation on different paths, as opposed to the same wave going in and out of nulls on the antennas?
(I've noticed the latter with two crossed dipoles in the same location)
