Check the price now.  Copper price has escalated over the last year or so,
presumably because of the recent demand for munitions.

Yes, I've bought them at Home Depot several times, 500' roll, insulated, 14
gauge.  The insulation is black, at least on what I have bought.  I can't
remember if there were other colors.  It was less than $15 for the roll. 
Maybe as low as $12 -- trying to recall.  12 gauge was also there, right
next to it, for a dollar or two more per spool.  At least at our local Home
Depot, Bowie, Maryland, it is always in stock, in the wire department near
the Romex, etc., which I suppose means it's the electrical aisle near light
switches, etc.
