I have a short 40 foot aluminum tower that I use for experimentation - At
the moment
it is serving as a 1/4 wave vertical for 80m. I has 26 ft of aluminum tubing
sticking out
of the top. It is insulated from ground and is sitting hinged on pressure
treated wood legs
buried in a small amount of concrete. I would like to tilt it over easily so
I can play
with top loading for 160meters, etc. I realize that one should analyze
these things from
an engineering point of view, bit I am looking for ideas. I was thinking
about putting
a 12 ft 6X6 with a backstay and pully at the top, that is near the tower and
use a small
winch to crank it up and down - similar to what I have seen used for crankup
towers
while they are nestled. Any ideas? There is no danger of hurting
anything other than
myself, since the tower is in the middle of a field with nothing else
around. The tower
weighes about 80 pounds total.
BTW, the 80m vertical has been a winner this season - several pileups have
been
broken first call.
