Rick.
The remote does not work without the control box connected.  It uses the 120 
v from the box to operate the relays.  You can run the motor by holding down 2 
relays, the one in the top center and one on the right or left, depending on 
which direction you want the tower to go.  The limit switches are not in the 
circut if you hold down the relays.  Also, the middle relay has 120 v on it so 
use an insulated screw driver.
You can run the motor on 220 V.  Just wire the 220 to the box where the 110 
is and change the wiring hook up in the motor, accordiung to the diagrammon the 
motor.
The relay box has the local up down switch on the side.
