     I agree with those who have already recommended a set of EWE RX-only 
antennas.  I had a set in my back yard before I constructed the tower and they 
worked unbelievably well.  I was able to hear stations on the EWEs that on the 
inverted L (my TX antenna at the time) were in the noise.  

     You might / probably will need a pre-amp of some kind in the line.  I have 
an ARL 1.8-20 (?) model that can provide selectable (via fixed resistors) gain 
up to 20 dB.  I had mine set to 12 dB or so of gain.  My pre-amp was in the 
shack but you could also feed it via the coax out at the antenna itself.  Let 
me know if you need a schematic or a description.

    BTW - I took down the EWEs when I put up the tower (I lost a number of 
interesting skyhooks cuz of that tower!)  I'm now looking at a set of K9AY 
loops hung off a tree in the side yard.  Stay tuned.
