Yes. This product is based on (and licenses) the same patent as
the SurgeX. The Brick Wall product is made for the home market,
while the SurgeX product is made for the pro audio market, and is
tested to higher standards. See www.surgex.com
These are both series-mode protectors -- that is, rather than
attempting to short the spike to ground (and pollute the ground),
they store the charge in a series reactive network, then gradually
discharge it back onto the line through a long time constant. The
reason that units for >20A are not made (yet) is that it is rather
impractical to build them with the much larger reactive elements
needed to handle more current.
Full disclosure -- I've used the SurgeX products in my home,
office, and ham station for about 5 years, and specify them for
all the pro audio systems I design. (I don't work on commission,
and am paid only for my advice, design, and spec writing). I also
do tech writing. About a year ago, SurgeX approached me to write a
Power and Grounding applications note, and they paid me for it.
Less than 5% of it is about surge suppression. What they paid me
is about half what I paid them for the suppressor's I've bought
from them. :)
