Two things:
I make coax assemblies every day. I use and highly recommend
Solder-it's IRODA Solder pro 120. They run about $80 and you can get
a number of different tips.
Secondly, I don't often disagree with Tom, but I did not experience a
problem with my 160 shunt fed vertical when I hung an 80 meter sloping dipole.
There was no change in the tuning and I did not "see" a difference in
performance.
That said, I have no scientific data to back my claim up.
