I understand that you are saying it did not slip but simply turns farther
that expected.
My first take on this: I would think a portion of the pot in the rotor may
be shorted and that particular section not registering as it turns through
it. Also, can the wiper on the pot come loose somehow? That could probably
be detected by watching the meter during a continuous turn through the
"problem" area in which the meter on the control box would not move even
though the antenna was still turning (have someone watch the antenna at the
same time). It would also give you an idea of where on the pot the problem
was.
Just my two cents, and that's not worth much anymore.
