Do I gather from the discussion that crank up/foldover towers in the US are
generally unguyed? Over here, guying is quite usual on a crank up: my 80 footer
is rated to 120mph by the manufacturer when guyed, with a load of about 8 sq
ft. It's 18 inches across the bottom section faces.
I hate climbing, so the fold over feature appealed. On one occasion, I had the
ladder up against the folded down tower, and was desperately trying to get
everything back together before dark - the garden was full of aluminium tubing.
Two little old ladies appeared, and I came down off the ladder to see what they
wanted. They gravely informed me that they were Jehovah's Witnesses who had
come to bring me the word of God. Some imp of wickedness (and a desire to get
on with the antenna work) led me to tell them that we were Cathode Followers -
Low Mu, not the High Mu creed - and they went away apologising for disturbing
me.........
