We listened all night long Rick N6RK And there in lies the problem. You started too late-- at night and quit too early ie before sunrise. That dipole might have run the pants off the vertical an hour before you started and 1/2 hour after you quit. Then again, it might not have. Depends on all the vagaries of propagation.
