There's what you CAN do,
What you're likely to do,
What makes sense to do,
and what's permitted, by code, as interpreted by bureaucrats.
Much as I'd like it to be otherwise, the argument for
crankups is thin, when their fundamentals don't meet
UBC windspeed ratings.
Color me: preferring crankups in suburbia, aesthetically,
but ready to guy the stick.
Make friends with your code officer and planning official,
and see how they view the tradeoff between aesthetics and
structural size. Maybe you'll get lucky.
