I was looking for a paper on a lightning field simulator developed by
some scientists at Erico (mfr of all sorts of lightning protection
equipment) and turned up a lot of other interesting stuff.

terminals you need (talking about the problems with the old "cone of
protection" and the "rolling sphere" methods).
One interesting development is a sort of coaxial cable designed for
the lightning rod (air terminal) down conductor to reduce the "side
flash" problem from inductance in the wiring:
