You didn't say what model or style TIC Ring you have. I have never had this
problem with the older units that used the Bison motor or the next version
that used the German motor in the aluminum housing because these motors were
located right next to the ring bearings (near the tower legs). At P40A I
have a newer 1024 TIC and the motor (in a steel housing) is located about
half way between the bearings or half way between the tower legs. On this
unit, I have had the gear pop out. Since the ring is not truly round, I
found that I had to engage the gear very tightly, actually bending the steel
that supports the motor, to keep it engaged for the whole revolution. This
solved the problem and it worked fine for a few years until I removed the
rotor.
I used five 1032 TIC Rings at my station in Illinois. The biggest problem I
has was water getting into the potentiometers and freezing. I spent much
time making the motors more waterproof and eventually solved that issue.
Lightning strikes would also damage the potentiometers and occasionally the
motors.

Hello TTer's with Ring Rotors
I am seeking ideas, tricks or suggestions about the Tic Rotors in use
today. Seems the biggest challenge I run into with these rotors is the
problem of keeping the gear teeth engaged. After some use, the ring
either gets out of round (hard to believe!) or the teeth tend to disengage
for some reason and the antenna rotation ends as it goes into a gap in the
teeth. Motor supports are loosing over time or what? After this
condition develops, any suggestion as to how to get it re-aligned?
I need some suggestions regarding maintenance of these rotors. Tell me
your stories, problems and issues with these rotors - would love to hear
of your experiences with these things! Thanks! Please reply directly.
