Talking about these things. Yesterday, I was setting up my 
new top-loaded
quarter wave vertical for 80 meters (see me at qrz.com). 
It´s made by EA5JK
and the loading system is pretty similar to those used at 
GAP verticals. >>


Copying the loading system of GAP verticals is a mistake. It 
is a very bad design. It has power limitations and it has 
very poor efficiency. It is probably the worse way to load 
an antenna, other than just using a resistor.

Look at actual perfromance of a GAP on 80 meters. It is 
terrible. I would not copy that design.
