There used to be a variety of RG-6 diameters just different enough to
require their own connector. That seems to have thinned down to regular foil
& braid and Quad shield. I buy 1000' reels of CommScope cable from a CATV
supplier as well as the connectors. The crimper is multi purpose and does
RG-59, 6 and 11. Ive had no problem with bad crimps once I got past the
learning curve.
As long as the braid is dressed properly and the connector isnt thin wall
junk you wont have any problems. In fact for just a weekend contest anything
will be OK.
Ive been using 75 Ohm cables here since 1983; RG-6, 11 and hardline from 1.8
thru 432 MHz and inch for inch of diameter it is lower loss than 50 Ohms.
A loss chart I published in 1988 showing twenty varieties of 50 and 75 Ohm
cables gives 4.3dB/100' at 432 for RG-6 and 2.1 dB for RG-11 CATV foam.
For RG-58 foam (Belden 8219, 9311) and RG-8 foam ( Belden 8214) the losses
are 9.2 dB and 3.3 dB respectively.
