We had two of them at Miami IFSS at Tamiami Airport. Huge LPs. Dunno the
lowest freq they were cut for. Both on the airport between the two parallel
runways. One was aimed at Swan Island, the other at Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
We used them to receive weather from SA for redistribution to the world via
AFTN circuits and retransmitted by our transmitter site southwest of
Tamiami, WBR70. When a light on one of the towers would go out, we had to
issue a NOTAM for it. The central NOTAM office in DC would always modify
the NOTAM.. We'd issue "Top light ots on radio tower 700 ft W of ATCT TMB.
They'd make it 700 ft W of airport. I had a hollering match with one idiot
that wouldn't understand that the tower was on the airport, not west of it.
