The big winds of yesterday (apparently 75 mph gusts) took down a 75 foot
pine tree at the top of the hill by my tower. From what I am told, the tree
is leaning on my shed and entangled in the main electrical wires from the
main pole to the pole that has my electrical meter. It took out a set of guy
wires, but the good news is the tower is still up. The power is still on but
the phone line is out. The top of the tree is setting on the DX engineering
antenna switch box which is bolted to the tower. Looks like an emergency
trip to the North Country will be asap. Will keep you informed. National
Grid said they will take care of it and to not go anywhere near the tree or
wires. (When they take care of it is another story). I cannot drive down the
driveway to the camp due to the tree.
I had no idea that anything was wrong, as I was on the air remotely from
there last night, working cw on 40 and turning the beam, all seemed ok and I
worked a few stations.
Just logged in there and all seems ok except no phone service. I hope I can
get up there and take pictures before the tree gets removed :-)
Looks like the good news is: They are responsible for removing it and fixing
the wires as it is on their side of my electrical meter.
