Surely not. The last (and only) time I used a pier pin
I recall it was about 12" long, with about 8" in the base
and 4" above the concrete and base plate. If the tower
was 40' of Rohn 45, there would have been 280 pounds on
the base plate which should not have slipped anywhere. I
bet this was a simple case of the temporary guy failing
with the tower falling in the opposite direction.

P.S. Current 180' of Rohn 45 erected by myself and one
inexperienced neighbor...and *no* pier pin! Once was
enough for me.
