The principles one uses to detune a tower can be applied to the boom of a yagi 
as well - that is, create a parallel tuned circuit using the boom, or part of 
it, as one leg and an external circuit that contains a tuneable element - most 
likely a variable cap.

I swear I've seen stuff on detuning a boom. I even thought I saw it in the
ARRL Antenna handbook. However, I can't seem to anything.

(I have found stuff about detuning towers).
