I have been accumulating wire for my future 40 meter and 80 meter 4-square
projects. I decided to use THHN insulated wire of 4 different colors (blue,
green, red, and black). I chose 14 gauge solid because of its lower price
compared to stranded. I started to buy it in 500 foot rolls during last Summer
when the copper price went sky high. Wooden 2x4's were the cheapest in years
then, but I didn't need them. hi hi

I used to pay $30 per 500 feet at Lowe's and Home Depot until it went to $35
in the Summer. I stopped buying it for a while while the price was high.

Since spot copper has fallen 50% or so since then, I started to look into
buying it again for my accumulation. I figured that the price would drop
accordingly. At Lowe's last week, instead of dropping from $35 per 500 feet,
it WENT UP TO $45 per 500 feet. I asked store personnel why and they said
their pricing was set at national headquarters. I am slowly realizing that I
can't change the world so I dropped pursuing it further . I went to Home Depot
to check their price and they dropped the price from $35 to $20!!!!!!!! It may
have dropped in increments to the $20 price per roll, but since then, I have
purchased 2500 more feet and continue to buy it whenever I get paid (social
security hi hi). Yes, lighter gauge would work, but my decision is based on
the philosophy of LAST TIME AND LONG LIVING INSTALLATIONS at my age. hi hi
