Bob,

Forgot to mention that you must use a primer paint
designed to be use over a galvanized surface.
The galvanized coating naturally sets up an 
reaction to most oil based paints called saponification.
The primer you choose must be designed to 
be used over galvanized or your new paint job
may peel off in a short period of time.
