Any idea if the older PST61 and the newer PST61D are similar internally?

I was interested in how you kept the water out (I don't have a PST61). One
guy at
the local hamfests was selling what looked like the kind of metal piece
under an
electric stove element that he installed on the mast upside down just above
the
rotator to sort of push the water out and away from rotator. It was
stainless steel.
Not sure how effective it was.
