All, One final question on rotator failures... Is it common for planetary gear rotators to completely fail to the point where they will no longer hold the mast and free spin, or are they more likely to freeze up and not spin at all? My Yaesu 1000 continues to make a creaking noise when the wind moves the mast in the stopped position, but other than that, it works fine; it doesn't make any noise while it spins the antennas. Thanks for all the replies.
