I'm not sure what the difference in a 20 or a 40 meter antenna would be, but
I built a 2-element 20 meter antenna here that I feed directly with 50 ohm
coax. It is on a 1/4 wave boom with a split driven element plus reflector.
SWR is good all across the band and has decent FB (not outstanding, but how
good do I need on the west coast).

Been using it for 3 or 4 years now and performs better than the TH-3 that it
replaced. Also have a 2-el for 10 built the same way. We'll see how that
one works if 10 ever opens again here in the PNW. Next is one for 15. 73

40M 2L 50 ohm impedance? with reasonable gain/f/b/swr bandwidth? I don't
think so,
