Martin,
I had a similar situation many years ago with the smaller 450. First,
though, ensure that the antenna is not hanging on a tree limb, or the
coax loop is binding it. I am sure you will get other inputs and
possibilities.
But my cause proved to be rusted ball bearings. The unit would turn
fine, but slow at certain directions. Finally, the day came when it
hung at those points, then broke free. Finally, it quite turning. A
little disassembly, new bears, and proper grease, and all is well.
But rule out the simple things first, hihi.
I am not suggesting that is it. But when all options are exhausted,
it could be. But I have used the 800 model a long time too, without a
"mechanical" glitch. I think they are good units. The controller
electronics and the tree limbs here, not so much. I now use a 3rd
party controller for the 800, after the stock controller failed.
