Yep, that's pretty much the way it is. It is generally acceptable (and
I think specifically noted in NEC) to use colored tape at each end to
identify conductors.
Another thought though. #10 copper makes excellent antenna wire --
that's my first choice for all of my wire antennas, not for resistance,
but for mechanical strength. Yes, copper stretches, but that's why God
made pulleys. :) So go ahead, bite the bullet and buy four 500 ft
spools, and use what's left for dipoles and radials. You'll also find
that longer spools are much cheaper per foot if you go the right place
to buy them. I usually buy at Lowe's or Home Depot.
