N4IS in Miami uses a Waller Flag. It has -50 db gain or approximately. Therefore it needs lots of amplification. However, he DOES hear the DX on 160. Hears very well. Check his website http://qrz.com/db/N4IS and http://www.n4is.com/

He is on a city lot or maybe slightly larger. It seems that the concept of the waller flag is about the same as the SAL concept, just different shape.

From the data I see, it looks like you need a lot of gain if
you want to use it on 160.

I have a Waller Flag in the works, looking forward to
seeing how it plays versus the Pennant I have up.

Actually to get useful information search for KB7GF ... and you will
see the QEX and QST articles, plus a couple other publications
detailing the Shared Apex Loop. One can also check October 2012 QST
if it is on the shelf in your shack.

 All,
I am debating whether to purchase the SAL or the K9AY Loop. Has
anybody done
an actual comparison? I have been told that the SAL system definitely
outperforms the K9AY Loop.
