I would not hesitate to mechanically attach it to the ground rod does not have to be anything fancy I would just fab something that permits as much material touching the rod as is possible by that I mean use as much of the 2"width as you can . John Molenda kb2huk

Lay it over horizontally and extend it on a flat surface using some rolling
implements of some sort. I don't think you want to fully disassemble it,
waaaay too much work.

TT Gang,

               I have a Hy-Gain 70' crank-up tower, (Model HG-70HD), new in
'85. The plan is to paint it with cold galvanizing paint and replace the
cable. Here's the problem. There are welded stops at the bottom of each
section, and there appear to be stops on the vertical side as well. If that is
the case, disassembly of the tower sections appears impossible. How do you get
access to the sections to paint them, short of spray-painting the nested tower?

If any of you have dealt with this issue, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Getting ready to receive a new M2 40M3L 40mtr yagi.
Need anyone who has one in the air or owned one in the past
to explain how you got adjusted to the part of the band you wanted.
Instruction manual gives info but apparently it's not to be relied upon.

Will be at 75ft with no other antennas on tower. 100 ft plus from any other
tower/antenna.

Much appreciated,

Tim , KT4TX

Has anyone come up with a way to connect flat copper straps to ground rods?
DXXE sells copper clamps w/ hardware, but at $35 a pop, I hoping that there
is a more reasonable way to get the job done.

My copper strap is 2" wide, by 6ft, and about 18 ga, but not sure.

Tnx,

Ray,

Hello Ray,

The grounding system is definately not a place to skimp. Its what protects your
radios, and really your entire home, from lightning. My tower gets hit directly
on average three times a year (a hill off of lake erie). Yet i have never lost
a single component. Ever. Thats the value of a good ground system.

I recommend buying the Polyphasor grounding book. It will tell you exactly how
to install a great system including the most important part - a single point
ground. You are on the right track with copper strap and ground rods. DXE
carries Polyphasor parts and their parts and service are excellent. Another
source to compare costs is Harger.

Best regards,
Scott W3TX

A good ground system is nice, and expensive. Is there any way to reduce
cost, por example, may I connect 2 or 3 rotor control lines (5 wires each)
to a single Polyphaser IS-RCT? So 2-3 wires will be connected to the same
terminal of the IS-RCT?

Thanks,
Jorge

No you cannot do that. The device basically monitors each of the colored
wires for too high a voltage and shorts it to ground if it's too high.
It would be the same as trying to share the same cable with multiple rotors
the way the device hooks up.

Thanks Drax

There?s too much $$$ difference for example between 3 x IS-RCT (for 3
rotors) and 1 x 16 terminal ArraySolutions cable arrestor (for 3 rotors). I
think they do the same.

Jorge
