I do not recall this article, I thought that he used phased dipoles after
his beam kept breaking. So is this similar to a fan dipole except the legs
are equal length and the bandwidth comes from the 10' spacing at the ends?

The March/April 2010 of NCJ (Nat'l Contest Journal) has a simple approach to
a
broadband 75/80m inverted vee. The article was written by N3HBX. It uses a
pair of inverted vees (58 foot legs) fed at a common point with the ends of
the
inverted vees being 10 feet apart. Of course the apex height and angle of
the
inverted vee may change these values a bit. SWR is less than 2:1 across the
entire band. Takes a little more real estate, but in my opinion a lot
easier
than messing around with all of the other options.

Happy DXing,
Fred, K9VV / NP2X
