"Power line filter" might as well put it on the shack side of whatever you 
might be filtering.

I prefer the method outlined in the Motorola document. Dig a trench around the 
shack and use a number of ground rods, bonded together with tower, single point 
ground and the building service entrance ground with large copper wire.
I use 7 8 foot ground rods. 

If you can drive them, use 8' rods. They're cheap.

Again, these are not simple cut and dried answers...

I invested in this conversation so that you'd tell me more about your aluminum 
foil and copper wiring shielding in your shack. Pictures maybe?
