And I've found the side opening block extremely convenient when an end of the rope is 100 ft away from where you need a second pulley.

I use one pulley at the top of the tower and one at the bottom so I can pull with the ATV and eliminate side loading on the tower.

I totally agree. I use - and sell - the lightweight Hastings pulley
and it's always the first one up the tower.
