I've had no problems with 10' lengths of the gray "stuff". (Maybe I've just been lucky) I too, have never seen any conduit in 12' lengths. Structural steel tube (sk 40) in 24' lengths.

All metal EMT (thin wall) and Iron conduit I've seen, were 10'.
