Towers are really difficult to see, particularly the typical wind sampling towers around here. They are guyed and no larger than a 25 or 45G. With the sun any where behind within say 30 degrees either side from half, or a quarter mile the tower become invisible.

I usually stop by at the staging area to make sure they know it's there. Even if the don't pay attention, it's a CYA.

Maybe we should have ARRL to look into t hat. I would not like even to be sued
over that. From my point of view the pilot should have been responsible for the
destruction of the tower. Obviously the pilot didn't take needed care. If that
was me driving into a tower there would be no questions whose fault it was.

The minor annoyance of keeping tied off doesn’t seem like a big deal when
something like this happens.

A bit farther down the site is an article about a wrongful death lawsuit for an
unlighted tower less than 200 ft. high. Seems that even following the FAA rules
does not protect you. It talks about agricultural and meteorological towers, but
I can see this including our stuff as well.
