sell at wildly inflated prices, or both. Many "have a pretty good
reputation" only because guys like you have never measured their stuff
competently and talked about it.
Unbranded connectors and unbranded coax should be viewed as junk unless
proven otherwise. If you want decent, inexpensive 75 ohm coax for RX and
low power applications, poke around the internet for Belden and
Commscope cables designed for CATV use. These are real cable companies
with real QC. If loss below 10 MHz matters, avoid copper-clad steel
center, and go for a relatively heavy braid shield.
Davis RF also sells decent quality private-labeled coax.
