It depends on what the chimney is used for. A fireplace will have more
soot than hot water heater.  Most furnaces now vent though the wall and
don't use a chimney. Many years ago I had a 220MHz Yagi and rotator
mounted on a furnace / water heater chimney and I had no problems.

I have limited options for placing my 40' tower and tribander at my QTH.
One of
them is next to the 2 story house very near the 33' chimney. Am wondering if
anyone has experience...soot affecting rotor or antenna parts?
