| We never really saw a kick out of the 5 vs the 4, ...The four comes in
multi setups..max gain, max rear, max side. compromise
performance.....Take your pick but there was not a real whole lot of
added performance either way..but the Lawson still reigns very high, 44
foot boom, 4 elements. I took his theory and modeled a 5 element. dual
drive, 60 foot boom for 20 meters at 144 feet up....it works, but it's
too good, too sharp..but it opens and closes the band...

Some years ago I used the design by Jim Lawson, W2PV (who wrote a book
on yagi antenna designs) extending the boom to something around 40ft.
as I recall. This was a 'bit long' for 2" boom and I suffered some
failures. I originally wanted to stack them along and atop on a 160ft
tower but used extended 204ba antennas instead. However, there has no
doubt been much printed about the 205ba as it was such a good antenna
by itself. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do. -Mike

Subject: [TowerTalk] Hy-Gain 205BA
I have bought a brand new Hy-Gain 205BA which had been sitting in a
garage for the last years. It is packed as it was shipped.
Has someone on this list tried to optimize it and/or upgrade it to a 6
elements yagi? I'm willing to extend the boom length to accommodate
the 4th director.
Your comments and thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
